Frequently Asked Questions

  • Q: How should I prepare for a hair removal treatment?

A: A: For body waxing, plan to exfoliate or scrub the area to be waxed on the day before your treatment. Don't forget to exfoliate in an upwards motion. Circular or zig-zag motions can actually break the hair. Sometimes redness and some swelling is normal and should go away within a few hours after treatment.

  • Q: What should I do after waxing?

A: A: Avoid tanning, working out, sunbathing, taking hot baths, showers, saunas and others activities that may result in you sweating as your pores are wide open and susceptible to infection for 24 hours after waxing. We recommend exfoliating your skin for a few days after your waxing session to remove dead skin cells that may clog up your pores. Also, avoid wearing tight clothes as it could irritate your skin.

  • Q: Why is waxing more efficient than shaving?

A: A: Waxing will not give you the inconvenient scrapes or cuts other methods will often cause. It soothes the skin by making body hair grow thinner, allowing your skin to be smoother, silkier and healthier.

  • Q: What is the process for waxing hair on the body and face?

A: A: Here at Elastic Wax, you will experience our signature 3-Step Process. First, we cleanse the skin to remove any perspiration, oils, lotion, or make up that may be on your skin. Our cleanser gives a mild numbing effect to help make your wax experience more comfortable. Second, we apply our exclusive hard wax that is specially blended with cotton seed oil to protect your skin from redness and irritation. The wax is applied at near body temperature to reduce the risks of burning the skin. In seconds, it dries to a flexible plastic and then is removed quickly. Third, we soothe and calm your skin with our cooling gel.

  • Q: What parts of the body can be waxed?

A: A: If there is hair on it, we can wax it! Don't be shy, we all have it. Yes, even hair "there". We offer a full menu of services for both men and women on every part of the body and face (excluding the head). Our wax is gentle enough to use on even your most delicate parts.

  • Q: Does waxing hurt?

A: A: Yes, but not as bad as you might think. The first time might be just a little uncomfortable, but it gets much easier the second, third and fourth times. If you wax regularly, pain is minimal and sometimes even unnoticeable. We have highly trained body wax specialists who go through an extensive training program to ensure that you get the best, most comfortable wax possible. Our Elastic Wax gently removes the hair at the root, weakening the follicles with as little pain as possible. At Elastic Wax, we offer you the best, most comfortable waxing system out there.

  • Q: Why do I have to fill out a questionnaire before my service?

A: A: The questionnaire helps us find out if you have any allergies, health conditions or are taking any medications that we might need to know about. Certain rare medicines might not make it possible for us to wax you. We also need to know if you are using any topical lotions or creams like AHAs or Retin-A, which are not compatible with waxing. There are many medications that make your skin more delicate and sensitive to waxing. It is for your protection that we do this.

  • Q: Should I have a glass of wine or take a pain reliever before I come? What about numbing creams?

A: A: No, you don't need to take a pain reliever or drink any alcohol before you come. Actually, drinking before you wax can have the opposite effect. Alcohol dehydrates you, and when you are dehydrated, your skin becomes more sensitive to pain. Numbing creams are not recommended. They will cause you to feel the heat of the wax more intensely, as well as create a barrier that may prevent the hair from properly adhering to the wax.

  • Q: How long does my hair have to be before I get waxed?

A: A: This can vary from person to person depending on hair type. A good rule of thumb is if you can pinch it, you can wax it. There has to be enough length for the wax to grab onto. For first time waxers, we recommend the hair to be a little longer, at least half an inch. This will make your waxing experience more comfortable and we can more effectively remove all of the hair and leave you with much smoother results.

  • Q: Do I need to exfoliate right before waxing?

A: A: No, but we do recommend that you exfoliate at least once a week to remove dead skin cells and to keep ingrown hairs at bay.

  • Q: Is it safe to wax when I am pregnant?

A: A: Yes, it is perfectly safe to wax while you are pregnant. Women can and have been waxed right up until their due date. If you become pregnant, it is important to wax on a regular basis. The hormones associated with pregnancy make you more sensitive to pain. Waxing frequently will help ease much of this pain. Remember, every pregnancy is different and if you have concerns, you should consult your doctor before waxing.

  • Q: I have eczema/psoriasis, can I still be waxed?

A: A: Yes, however, wax cannot be applied over skin that is irritated or broken. If you have a few spots, we can wax around them. Consult your doctor if you are concerned.

  • Q: Is it ok to wax if I am sunburned?

A: No, you cannot wax if you have a sunburn. The skin is too sensitive. Our specialists will not wax skin that is sunburned or damaged.

  • Q: Should I tan before or after I wax?

A: Tanning should not be done the day that you wax. You should avoid tanning 24hrs before and 24hrs after tanning.

  • Q: Should I have a spray tan before or after I wax?

A: After! If you spray tan before you wax, waxing will remove the spray tan when it exfoliates the dead skin cells.

  • Q: I have my period, can I still get a bikini wax?

A: A: Yes, as long as you are wearing a tampon you can still get a bikini wax. It's normal, every woman gets them, so don't be embarrassed. It is also important to know that waxing while having your period can be a little more painful than when you don't have your period.

  • Q: Do I have to take my underwear off for a bikini wax?

A: A: It depends on what type of bikini wax you are getting. If you are getting a Brazilian or a Full Bikini, you will have to remove your underwear since the hair will be removed from the labia. Scooting your underwear to the side lengthens the time of the service and can make the service more uncomfortable. If you are doing your Bikini Line or a Deep Bikini, you can leave your underwear on. However, we recommend removing the underwear for any bikini service, as it makes the service go faster, with less pain and embarrassment. Our specialists are very professional and will go out of their way to make you feel comfortable during the entire service.

  • Q: I'm a man, can I wax my face?

A: A: Men can always have their eyebrows, ears, and nose waxed. While we do offer lip, cheek, chin, and full face services for men, it is done at the discretion of the Elastic Wax specialist. Your specialist will determine the texture and density of your hair to see if it is able to be waxed. Men's facial hair typically comes in coarse and dense. Waxing hair that thick can cause damage to the skin or even bleeding.

  • Q: Will I bleed when I get waxed?

A: A: First time bikini and underarm waxing can sometimes cause minor bleeding, but it is nothing to worry about. Both are sensitive areas and if you have been shaving for a long time, the hair is very thick and coarse. When the hair is like this, it can bring a drop of blood up with it as it detaches from the follicle. It is completely normal and is nothing to be alarmed about. Over time with regular waxing, it will stop happening and the hair starts to grow in finer and thinner.

  • Q: My hair is long, should I trim it before I come in?

A: A: No, let our experienced Elastic Wax specialists take care of that for you. When you trim the hair yourself, you tend to cut off too much from certain areas. Doing this may limit the amount of hair that can be removed. If hair is trimmed too short, the wax will not be able to grab onto it. So, put the scissors and the trimmer down, and let us take care of you.

  • Q: How do Brazilian waxes work?

A: Brazilian waxing consists in removing all pubic hair or leaving a small vertical strip of hair left.

Additional Information:
Do not shave in between waxing sessions. Shaving will make your hairs grow thicker, darker and faster.
